Thailand

Why Thailand is one of our favorite island destinations.

You could say that Thailand is our second home as we have spent more time in the country than anywhere else in the world. Since we first set foot here some 20 years ago, Thailand has been part of our annual trek from South Africa.

It started as visiting once a year, but at this point we return to the Land of Smiles almost 8 – 10 times a year. Of course we come with groups of guests, but we also choose to spend our free time in this wonderful country that has captured our hearts many times.

It's safe to say that you either love Thailand or you hate it - there's no in between. It's always hot, it's always busy and there's always someone willing to sell you something, but that's part of the charm. Once you fall in love with Thailand, your heart will always ache to come back.

Here are 5 reasons why we love Thailand:

The people
Although there are many reasons why Thailand is so special, it is the charm and friendliness of the Thai people that help make it an extra special destination to visit. And it is this hospitality and welcome that continues to attract repeat visitors year after year.

The right weather combination
Thailand is definitely a holiday destination all year round. With warm temperatures and an equally warm welcome awaiting you, any month can be a good time to visit. And although it is true that Thailand does experience a rainy season, temperatures remain high and when tropical rain showers do occur, they are often short and sharp.

Breathtaking Islands
Thailand is home to a variety of incredible islands and inviting beaches. No matter what your preferred style of travel is, you will find islands and beaches that are ideal for you. From less visited islands such as Ko Tarutao and Ko Jum in the Andaman Sea, to better known destinations such as Phuket, Ko Samui and Ko Pha Ngan in the Gulf of Thailand, there is something to appeal to all types of travellers. Whether you're looking for a family holiday on the beach, a romantic getaway or somewhere out of the way, there's a Thai beach or island with your name on it.

Food
Food is at the heart of Thai culture which makes Thailand one of the best food destinations in the world. From simple street food to upscale dining, part of the joy of any trip to Thailand is indulging in authentic Thai food as well as the interactions with street food vendors, restaurant staff and in local markets. Wherever you travel in Thailand, make sure you bring an open mind and a big appetite and delve into the delights of Thai food.

Budget to luxury
Whether you are looking for a basic bungalow near the beach or a luxury hotel in Bangkok, you will find something to suit every taste and budget in Thailand. You can also shop to your heart's content, whether it's at a local weekend market or shops you'd expect to find on 5th Avenue.

Thailand is one of the easiest destinations to visit from South Africa with several combat options via Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai or Doha. South Africans do not need a visa and our rand is relatively strong against the Thai baht.

In 2024 we will sail again to our favorite island destination. In March, April and October, guests will enjoy 7 nights in Phuket, while those joining in September will experience the charms of Bangkok and Krabi. In December, nearly 100 guests will join us as we enjoy Christmas and New Year in Patong!
